Mindful Eating


    Having 6 to 9 Job, is really stressful, sitting for hours at a desk all day. Stuck in traffic almost three or two hours. More Jollof rice, your favorite. Oily soups and stews. Pasta.  Weekends off. No exercise.  Bottles of beer and stout. Plenty cocktails and pepper soups, which you eat in the veranda with friends crushing chicken bones. Hefty swallows: cassava, flour and starch.  Fleshy waists and tummies. Ridiculous pot bellies. Bad backs. Delicate livers.


  An average Nigerian goes through the cycle of bad fitness, our unavoidably hectic lifestyle and crappy diet perhaps contributes significantly to why our life expectancy is so low.

 I feel Nigerians have a few things backwards in our view of one another. The idea of the affluence is associated with how fleshy they are, imagine making a decision to lose weight and get fit, and as you get lean, people start to ask you if you are okay and some will start to whisper about how your business is failing. This also applies to women in most cases, your peers tell you to take it easy because Nigerian men don't like skinny women or you don't know well or maybe you look malnourished because you are lean. Misconception about fitness varies, there's also a view of people walking as a sign of poverty, but it does hurt to park your car somewhere far from your office and walk down, or miss the cabs or buses sometimes.

    We put ourselves under the wrong types of pressure. We really do need to correct so many thought processes and perceptions, most importantly our complete disregard to mindful eating.
     Nevertheless some could be genetically fat, or skinny, and be a mindful eater, or it could be the opposite sometimes. There is nothing wrong to shred some fat, it's only healthy. Obesity kills, no matter how much you don't like to be fat shamed. Your health first.
    People still consume soft drinks like food and there's little to no widespread knowledge on healthier options. Mindful eating does not hurt, it is only healthy.
