The You.#break the silence#

You are slicing tomatoes for the Jollof rice you are making.  It is a humid night and the cold still hangs in the air. You love cooking Jollof rice on a cold day, it's your favourite thing in the world but yet your mind wanders as you remember him.

The first time he kissed you deeply, holding your face in his hands.  You felt love, you were sure it was because when he kissed you, your eyes were .closed.

The night, you met him in the downtown jazz club, he rocked well taking one step back and forth. He made you chuckle with his not so good dancing skills before he asked you to the dance floor. The way his arms circle your waist felt so good.

The old songs he played when you come over to his place is still fresh in your memory,  and the funny dance he is usually doing that makes you throw your head back in a giggle.

Your conversations with him was lit, you enjoyed when he talked about anything and everything. Just the way you enjoyed laying down on his hard chest, your face close to his chin your eyes burrowing into his.

A tear roll down your cheek as you slice the onions into rings. But it was not the onion that made you cry. It has been a year now. You have wishes. You wished for many things.

You wish Chucky hasn't become the monster he is. The memories are still fresh as fresh as the bread freshly baked and delivered to you every morning by 'Delicate Bakery'.

You can't remember what the argument was about that night but you know he swung at you across your face as a heavy slap hits you. He was enraged, rage was something you didn't know Chucky was capable of.

He kissed your forehead after that and cradle you in his arms.

"I am sorry".He says. " It would not happen again".

It did happen again and again and again and again leaving your eyes swollen like an overripe avocado.

The day you broke the silence, all your sister could say was,

"Negodu, he slapped you and you still stayed. Maka gini? "
